Cantata in Poher

What is Cantata?

Cantata is a tourism development project which aims to develop the cultural and environmental identity of the participating regions. The project seeks in particular to facilitate a meeting of cultures where the visitor can benefit from a real insight into the local area, and where meetings between tourists and locals are at their most authentic.

In France the project is managed by the Communauté de Communes du Poher, and the eligible region covers the whole of Central-West Brittany. Anyone involved directly or indirectly in tourism, now or in the future, as a main or secondary activity, can benefit from it.

What are the objectives for Poher?

There are two main objectives:

  1. Creation of "ambassadors" for culture and Breton traditions capable of sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with tourists.
  2. 2. Creation of innovative tourist products allowing a strong differentiation of local products on the market.

Planned activities

Cantata will introduce a number of activities designed to:

  • train tourist leaders in traditions and local culture so that they can awaken and stimulate the interest of visitors
  • reinforce professionalism and improve the quality of the welcome extended to tourists
  • facilitate the creation and promotion of new authentic tourist products.

More specifically we will be organising a large number of themed workshops, which will be practical, free and with a limited number of spaces (to encourage everybody to participate and to exchange tourist information).

Identity workshops

These workshops will form the heart of the project. Cantata's approach can be summed up by the phrase 'one word ? one tradition', as we are going to unveil a limited number of key words which convey the identity of Poher and its traditions to tourists.

Each workshop will deal with one of these key words (or phrases) by examining the importance for the region of the history hidden behind that word. It is a simple approach allowing different aspects of local identity to be enhanced and made accessible to tourists. We also envisage the publication of synthetic training aids for professionals as well as glossaries for tourists

Professional workshops

The workshops aimed at reinforcing professionalism will be less innovative but they will offer access previously unavailable in Central-West Brittany to essential subjects such as product organisation, communication techniques, perfecting a welcome and marketing tourist products.

Product creation

These workshops will facilitate the sharing of knowledge amongst participants and the development of a synergy beneficial to the creation of new tourist products.

Marketing and promotion

Cantata will support these activities with a major marketing and promotion effort, which will apply to existing products which also contribute to local identity.

Further information

Cantata aims to promote a sense of pride in our region and in our way of life. We will share our pride with tourists through our warm welcome, a more in-depth knowledge of Poher and a renewed certainty that the region offers interesting and valuable possibilities to the tourist. Let's make the most of it!
